governors

2025-26

School governors are responsible for overseeing the management of school strategy in relation to policy, budget and staffing.  Governors have legal duties, powers and responsibilities which they use to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of school including outcomes.  The Governing Body works in partnership with the Senior Leadership Team, providing challenge and support to ensure the best possible educational offer to our children.
At St Hilda's CE Primary School, Governing Body meetings are held half-termly.  The Governing Body is made up of parents, school staff, foundation governors (elected by the Parochial Church Council) and Local Authority representatives.
Parent Governor vacancies are widely advertised along with instructions for how to apply and detailed information about the election process.   A parent governor must have a child on-roll in school.  Parent governors are elected via a ballot by parents of children on-roll in school.

Governor Diversity Data 2025-26

We’re committed to improving the diversity of school governing boards.  We recognise the importance of diverse boards so that decisions are made robustly with input from people with a variety of lived experiences – as well as varied skills. It’s also vital that children see people of all backgrounds in board-level positions.

30% of our Governors are from ethnic minority backgrounds. Where we can, we try to find someone who can bring the skills our school needs alongside the diversity.
