Year 6: Sycamore and Willow Class Gallery 2026-27
Please take a look at some of the great things we have been doing in Sycamore and Willow Classes this year.
PSHE: Mental Health and Wellbeing - October 2026
The Y6 children took part in a mental health and well-being workshop, where they explored a range of activities designed to support positive mental health and emotional well-being. The session focused on the importance of connecting with others, taking part in physical activity, focussing the mind and recognising the positive qualities in others through complimenting one another. The children engaged enthusiastically with the activities and developed an understanding of how these simple strategies can help them to look after their mental health and well-being.
English: Theme Maps - September 2026
Year 6 have been creating theme maps for the story The Bear in the Stars. They have explored the key themes, characters, settings and events within the story, making connections between different ideas and identifying important details. This has helped them to deepen their understanding of the text and prepare for their own creative and descriptive writing.
English: Descriptive Writing - September 2026
Year 6 have been using sentence stacking to develop their descriptive writing skills, creating expanded noun phrases to describe a range of settings. They have explored how carefully chosen adjectives and additional detail can bring a setting to life, building their sentences step by step to create vivid and engaging descriptions. This has helped them to make their writing more detailed and effective.
Mathematics: Rounding - September 2026
Year 6 have been using number lines to develop their understanding of rounding numbers to the nearest 1,000, 10,000 and 100,000. They have been identifying the two multiples that a number lies between and using the number line to determine which multiple it is closest to. This has helped them to visualise the size and position of numbers and apply the correct rounding rules with increasing confidence.
Art: Community Time ‘International Dot Day’ - September 2026
During their Community Time activities, our Y6 children have been getting creative with pointillism art, inspired by International Dot Day and the much-loved book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. The children explored how simple dots can be transformed into colourful and imaginative works of art, experimenting with different sizes, colours and patterns. The activity encouraged them to embrace creativity, take risks and, just like Vashti in The Dot, discover that everyone can be an artist. It has been wonderful to see the children’s individuality and imagination shine through in their fantastic creations!
