Oak and Pine class put on a smashing performance of Dr. Seus' poem 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas'.
The actions, expressions and synchronisation were brilliant. We are all so proud of them! (The Grinch himself made a few appearances throughout - his heart probably grew three sizes after such a performance on his behalf!)

The children posted their letters in the post box and had a look around the Post Office. They were shown some stamps and money with the king and queen on them. The children practised queuing with their letters and parcels. They looked at all of the different sized envelopes and suggested what might fit in them.
Year 6: World Book Day - March 2025
We had real fun on World Book Day, recreating miniature versions of our favourite story books. We had to be really inventive with the little space we had, capturing key events and characters from the books. It was a real challenge to fit everything neatly into the jars.

Year 6: Innovating a Character - January 2026
Using Wings of Glory by Dermot O’Leary as a stimulus, the children have become imaginative innovators, designing their own unique characters to help humans win World War Two. Inspired by courage, teamwork and resilience in the story, they carefully drew their characters and labelled key features to show appearance, special skills and personality traits. Each design reflects thoughtful problem-solving, as children considered how their character could support pilots, protect others or change the course of events. Through this creative process, they combined historical understanding with imagination, demonstrating how innovation and bravery can make a powerful difference.

Year 6: Story Maps - January 2026
The Year 6 children have been creating story maps to help them plan their own versions of this story. By breaking the narrative into clear stages, they have mapped out the key events, characters, and settings, using pictures, arrows, and keywords to support their thinking. These story maps have helped the children understand how the plot develops from the opening to the resolution, while also encouraging them to adapt ideas, add detail, and make creative changes of their own. As a result, they are more confident in organising their writing and developing exciting, well-structured stories inspired by Linus and the RBF.
Year 6: First Draft - January 2026
The Year 6 children have been writing the first draft of their own version of Wings of Glory, using their story maps to guide the structure and flow of their narratives. Having completed their initial drafts, they are now in the revising and editing stage, where they are carefully rereading their work to improve vocabulary, sentence structure, and clarity. The children are checking that events are well ordered, descriptions are vivid, and ideas are clearly developed, while also correcting spelling, punctuation, and grammar. This process is helping them refine their writing and take pride in producing a polished final piece.
Year 6: Travel Guide - March 2026
Year 6 pupils have been developing their persuasive writing skills by drafting their own travel guides, designed to entice visitors to the luxurious 5-star Frontier Lodge. Drawing on the language and structure of real travel brochures, the children have worked hard to create engaging descriptions that highlight the lodge’s outstanding features, breathtaking surroundings, and premium facilities. Through this activity, they have focused on using vivid vocabulary, persuasive techniques, and clear organisation to capture the reader’s interest and promote the lodge as an exciting and desirable destination.
Year 3: World Book Day - March 2026
World Book Day was full of excitement and imagination in Elm class! We were very lucky to have our Word Wizard Reading visitor, who came to share the inspiring story ‘The Boy Who Biked the World’ by Alastair Humphreys.
After the story, the fun continued with a video of three mysterious masked readers. Using our detective skills, we listened closely to their voices and tried our very best to guess who was behind each mask. There were lots of giggles and great guesses!
Next, we shared some of our favourite stories with our friends. It was wonderful to hear about so many different books and discover new ones we might like to read.
To finish our fantastic day, we got creative and designed our own gingerbread men inspired by our favourite stories. There were some brilliant ideas and colourful designs!
World Book Day in Elm was a wonderful celebration of reading, creativity, and imagination. We had such a great time exploring the magic of books together!
Year 3: Trip to Northmoor Library - March 2026
Maple and Elm class had a fantastic trip to Northmoor Library! We were excited to explore the library and discover all the books and resources it has to offer.
When we arrived, each of us made our very own library card. It felt special to have a card that allows us to borrow books whenever we like! The children were so proud to take their cards home, so adults can take the children to the library.
We also met Charlotte, who works at the library. She read us a wonderful story that captured our imagination. After the story, Charlotte gave us a tour of the library, showing us the different sections—from storybooks to non-fiction and everything in between.
It was a brilliant trip full of stories, learning, and fun. Elm class can’t wait to visit Northmoor Library again!

Year 6: Descriptive Writing - April 2026
Over the past week, the Year 6 children have been focusing on developing their descriptive writing skills. They have worked hard to create vivid, independent setting descriptions, bringing locations to life through carefully chosen language and detail. In particular, they described Frontier Lodge, using rich imagery to convey its atmosphere and surroundings, and then went on to write about the dramatic aftermath of a tsunami striking the area. Through these pieces, the children demonstrated growing confidence in using descriptive techniques to engage the reader and paint a clear picture in their writing.
Year 6: Descriptive Writing - September 2026
Year 6 have been using sentence stacking to develop their descriptive writing skills, creating expanded noun phrases to describe a range of settings. This has helped them to make their writing more detailed and effective.
Year 6: Theme Maps - September 2026
Year 6 have been creating theme maps for the story The Bear in the Stars. They have explored the key themes, characters, settings and events within the story, making connections between different ideas and identifying important details.
