In History we have been looking at maps. 

The children enjoyed an afternoon celebrating the 80^th anniversary of the end of World War 2 in Europe. 

In History we have been looking at Local History. We played with old toys to understand what it was like for children in our local area in the past. We loved exploring all the old toys and how they work. 

We explored why Remembrance Day is such an important part of our national history and how people across the country come together to honour those who served in the war.

As part of our learning, we learnt a special song, which we proudly performed during our school assembly. The lyrics helped us think about themes of courage, peace, and reflection, and we discussed what the song meant. 

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we also took part in the two-minute silence. Beforehand, we talked about its significance and why keeping silent helps us show respect and gratitude. The children showed great maturity as they stood quietly and reflected together.

In addition, we learnt about why people wear poppies. We looked at different kinds of poppies worn today and discussed what they stand for.

Through our study of King Midas and the Golden Touch, the children have explored how the Greeks used mythology to explain human nature and the importance of contentment over greed. By researching the historical context of the Phrygian Kingdom and examining artifacts from the era, the students brought the past to life through these spirited performances. It has been wonderful to see them translate their classroom learning into creative storytelling, proving that even a "golden touch" isn't as valuable as a wealth of knowledge!
