Year 4: Families Assembly - March 2024

It was Mrs Kelly’s assembly and Cherry class did a presentation. The topic was ‘Families’; some children did a performance with their family members, talking about each other. The whole class then sang ‘One Big Family’ beautifully.

Year 6: PSHE - April 2024

The Year 6 children have been learning about mental health and stress. In their lessons they created stress relief dice. They considered different activities that they could do to relieve stress. The children are using the dice effectively to stay calm before their upcoming SATs.

Year 6: Personal Development - October 2024

The children have been studying their rights and needs. We have also focussed our work on setting targets for our own personal development.

Year 4: Fire and Safety Centre Trip - October 2024

Birch class visited the Fire and Safety Centre. They learnt how to identify hazards and keep safe in emergencies.

The children were eager to share their fantastic answers as they knew a lot on how to keep themselves and others safe! What an incredible trip!

 

Cherry Class enjoyed a trip to Bury Fire Training and Safety centre, the visit was thoroughly enjoyable and informative.

Children got dressed up in the full gear - they were fired up and ready to go!

Year 3: Linking Project to South Failsworth School - January 2025

On 20th January 2025, Maple class met Lowry class for the first time! We had so much fun getting to know each other, eating lunch together and doing some art work. We can’t wait to see each other again in March.

Year 3: The Linking Project - March 2025

Maple class went to South Failsworth School to visit their partner class - Lowry. This is part of the Linking Project which enables children from different backgrounds to get to know each other and become friends. Children from both schools had a fun and exciting day full of wonderful activities!

Year 5: World Mental Health Week - February 2025

Oak and Pine class wrote poems about themselves for World Mental Health Week. They wrote the most beautiful poems and recited them to each other; they learnt a lot about one another. It was a lovely experience.

Year 6: Community Time - May 2025

As part of our Community Time activities, the Year 6 children created friendship bracelets using three different colours of thread. This was a fantastic chance to bond with each other and deepen our friendships.

Year 3: Linking Project Celebration Event - June 2025

Year 3 children from St Hilda’s were invited to the Schools’ Linking Project Celebration Event’. It was a lovely afternoon spent with other schools and important people from Oldham looking at the year’s achievement.

PSHE: MBE Muzahid Khan Visit to School - June 2025

We had the pleasure of welcoming MBE Muzahid Khan to our school, where he spoke to our students about aspiration and shared his inspiring journey. It was particularly special as he attended St Hilda's Primary as a child, and has since gone on to achieve great things. His dedication and service have been recognised with an MBE, awarded by the King.

Year 4: Letters to Future Selves - July 2025

Cherry class were very excited to open their letters to their future selves!

Year 3: The Linking Project Trip to Castleshaw - July 2025

Maple class and Lowry class from South Failsworth spent the day at Castleshaw as part of the Linking Project between both schools. We all had a fantastic time with our new friends engaging in lots of fun team building and other activities.

Year 5: 'Same Here' Game - October 2025

This week, Pine class played the game 'Same Here' and this created a web to show how we are all linked together!

Year 4: Ourselves - October 2025

During Community time this week, we have discussed and talked about ourselves. We learned all about how we have shared our interests in class we used string to connect us together by our likes. We enjoyed seeing how we were all connected but loved detangling ourselves more! 

Year 6: Teamwork 'Fishing' - October 2025

Year 6 worked in teams to try and retrieve 'fish' from the 'pond', they were able to communicate well and put together a plan to extract the beanbags with the supplies they were given, the team with the most beanbags won.

Year 3: The Linking Project Trip to Castleshaw - November 2025

Maple class met Lowry class as part of the Schools’ Linking Project at Castleshaw Centre. We had the most amazing time making friends and doing all the fun activities! We can’t wait to see each other again in January!

Year 5: Community Time Challenge - November 2025

Year 4: Community Time - December 2025

During community time, the children came together to work as a team and enjoy group activities. They used the parachute to practise cooperation, communication, and turn-taking, building a sense of teamwork while having fun.

Nursery: Police Visit - December 2025

Today Nursery had a visit from PCSO's McAvady and Kenney and Police Officer Darcie. We enjoyed listening to them tell us about their jobs and trying on their police uniform. We then went outside for a surprise.. We got to see their police car, hear the sirens and sit inside the car. The children then played police officers and bad guys out side. 

Year 4: Visit Bury Fire Station - December 2025

Year 4 Birch class enjoyed an exciting and educational visit to Bury Fire Station, where they took part in fire safety training. The children learned about fire safety at home, met the firefighters, and explored the fire engine. It was a valuable experience that helped reinforce important safety messages in a fun and memorable way.

Year 5: Class Assembly - January 2026

Pine class performed their class assembly all about why compassion is important in friendships.

Year 3: Linking Project 'Together Town' - January 2026

As part of the Linking Project, South Failsworth School’s Anning class visited St Hilda’s Elm class (year 3). The children had a fun-filled day creating a ‘Together Town’, making a giant paper chain and meeting new friends. Lots of  teamwork and new friendships made!

Year 6: Fundraising - February 2026

In their recent PSHE lessons, the Year 6 children have been developing creative fundraising ideas to support a variety of charities. They have explored different ways to raise money, considering what activities would be engaging, inclusive, and effective for their school community. Through discussions and group planning, the children have learned to work collaboratively, think critically, and consider the impact their efforts could have on others. This project has not only encouraged their entrepreneurial thinking but also helped them develop a strong sense of empathy and social responsibility.

Year 3: Kindness Tree - March 2026

Lowry class from South Failsworth came to visit Maple class and we had so much fun! We created a 'Kindness Tree' and made a cube collage. The best part of the day was spending time in Forest School with our friends! 

Year 3: Visit South Failsworth School - March 2026

Elm class visited our friends from Anning class their school (South Failsworth) and had a fantastic, fun-filled day together.

When we arrived, we met our new friends again which was so exciting. One of the exciting activities was creating our own special handshake with our partner. It was lots of fun thinking of different moves and practising them together!

We also worked together to design and make our own shields. Everyone used their creativity to decorate their shields with different colours, patterns, and symbols.

Later, we had the chance to play some fantastic games in their playground. We ran, laughed, and enjoyed spending time with our new friends.

It was a wonderful day, and we loved visiting South Failsworth School. We hope to see our friends from Anning class again soon!

Year 4: Bury Fire Station - March 2026

Children had an exciting and informative visit to Bury Fire Station, where they learned all about fire safety and how to escape safely in an emergency. They saw real fires being demonstrated, explored fire engines, and even visited the control centre to understand how emergencies are managed.

Year 3: “What is Anxiety?” Workshop - April 2026

Elm class recently took part in a workshop “What is Anxiety?” led by Georgia Morris from the NHS mental health team. During the session, she guided the children through a range of engaging activities to help them understand in more depth what anxiety is, how it can feel, and ways they can manage it. The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and came away with a much better understanding of anxiety and how to cope with it.

Year 6: Mental Health and Wellbeing - October 2026

The Y6 children took part in a mental health and well-being workshop, where they explored a range of activities designed to support positive mental health and emotional well-being. The session focused on the importance of connecting with others, taking part in physical activity, focussing the mind and recognising the positive qualities in others through complimenting one another. The children engaged enthusiastically with the activities and developed an understanding of how these simple strategies can help them to look after their mental health and well-being.
